Kilbeggan provided the setting for Eoin Griffin's The Last Derby runaway success in his beginners chase.Taking the initiative under Barry Geraghty he stormed home to a facile win by 25 lengths from a competitive field.
His hurdle rating intitled him to go close in this first outing over the larger obstacles, but the manner of his win and his accurate jumping left a few shrewd judges with the opinion that he may well have a nice future over fences.
A son of Anabaa, this was the 5yo's third win in total, having already won his bumper on good ground at Tipperary last Summer and then his novice hurdle at Fairyhouse the following November on soft. His other previous runs includ a 3rd behind Go Native in a listed hurdle at Punchestown in December last year.
