To overcome an absence off the racecourse of 720 days and to win in good style is a sign of a good horse and good trainer. Quiamo Malta, who has had some unfortunate problems since he arrived in Ireland over a year and a half ago, came good on his Irish debut, when landing the Cornstore Maiden Hurdle at Limerick on 27/12/09.
His form in France reads well, having finished ahead of and just behind some nice horses such as Chapoturgen who subsequently went to trainer Paul Nicholls, and River Liane, who was 3rd in the Grade 1 Toshiba Hurdle at Leopardstwon for Tom Cooper.
He was then purchased for trainer Paul Nolan by Sean Tiernan of PEAK BLOODSTOCK Ltd. who was given the criteria of finding a nice horse with potential.A stromger horse now with another year under his belt, he led from the start in Limerick and although joined and maybe headed he battled back to win by 1 1/2 lengths in this competitive maiden.
The plaudits must go to Paul and James Nolan for their patience with this horse and although not yet a Grade 1 winner, he must have given connections a tremendous sense of satisfaction, given his time off the track.
There are many options available to this lightly raced son of Sassanian, and he looks like he will stay a good deal further.
