Red Mills Trial Hurdle (Grade 2) 2m
TEXTBOOK was the only way to describe the fashion in which Solwhit strolled away with the biggest victory of his very short hurdling career.
Settled at the rear of the field by Davy Russell the well-backed 11-10 favourite jumped his way stealthily through the six-runner field to track the leading duo of Newmill and a driven Beau Michael turning for home.
Andrew Lynch pressed Beau Michael into a clear advantage approaching two hurdles out but was never ever travelling as well as Charle Byrnes's five-year-old who swooped past him in a canter and confirmed himself the winner with a tidy leap over the last.
The winning trainer said: "That was a great performance it was probably my own fault that he got beaten in Thurles the last day he was only back from Cheltenham four days. In hindsight we probably shouldn't have run him.
"As regards plans for him he'll just keep ticking over for the rest of this year and we'll gear him towards taking on the big boys next season."
Three lengths behind Jazz Messenger kept on to deny Beau Michael second place, who finished nine lengths clear of the pacesetting Newmill.
